Historic Mosque City of Bagerhat
Located on the outskirts of Bagherhat, at the confluence of the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers, this ancient city, originally named Khalifatabad, was founded in the 15th century by the Turkish general Ulugh Khan Jahan. The city's infrastructure shows a fairly high level of technology, with many mosques and early Islamic monuments, many of which are made of brick.
Kasbah of Algiers
The Kasbah is a unique medina, or Islamic city. It sits on one of the most beautiful coastal sites in the Mediterranean, overlooking an island where a Carthaginian trading post was established in the 4th century BC. There are remnants of a castle, an ancient mosque and an Ottoman-style palace, as well as remnants of a traditional urban structure linked to a deep-rooted sense of community.
City of Safranbolu
From the 13th century until the advent of railways in the early 20th century, Safranbolu was an important caravan station on the main trade route between the East and the West. The Old Mosque, Old Baths and Suleyman Pasha Academy were built in 1322. During its heyday in the 17th century, Safranbolu's architecture influenced urban development across much of the Ottoman Empire.
