Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in “The Centre of Heaven and Earth”
Songshan is a sacred mountain in central China. At the foot of this 1,500-meter-high mountain, near Dengfeng City in Henan Province, eight groups of buildings and sites stand within a 40-square-kilometer radius, including three Hanque Gates - the oldest religious architectural remains in China -, temples, the Zhougong Sundial Platform, and the Dengfeng Observatory. These buildings were built over nine dynasties and reflect people's different understandings of the center of heaven and earth and the power of the mountain as a center of religious belief. Dengfeng's historical sites include some of the best examples of ancient Chinese architecture used for ritual, science, technology, and education.
Archaeological Ensemble of Tárraco
Tarraco (modern Tarragona) was the main administrative and commercial city in Roman Spain and the imperial cult centre for all the Iberian provinces. It is home to many fine buildings, parts of which have been uncovered in a series of exceptional excavations. Although most of the remains are fragmentary and many have been preserved under newer buildings, they provide a vivid picture of the grandeur of this Roman provincial capital.
Tianjin Science and Technology Museum
Tianjin Science and Technology Museum is located in the southwest of Tianjin City, on the coast of Bohai Sea in northern China. Since September 20, 2008, the museum's exhibition hall has been open to the public free of charge. Tianjin Science and Technology Museum covers an area of 20,000 square meters and a construction area of 18,000 square meters. The permanent exhibition hall is 10,000 square meters. It has screened more than 10,000 science and education films and astronomical programs, popularizing scientific knowledge to the general public, promoting the scientific spirit, and spreading scientific ideas and methods. It has played an important role in improving citizens' scientific literacy and implementing the strategy of "prospering the city through science and education." It has been named "National Popular Science Education Base", "National Youth Science and Technology Education Base", "National Primary and Secondary School Patriotism Education Base" by relevant state ministries and commissions, and has won more than 60 honorary titles such as "National Advanced Collective for Popular Science Work" and "National Advanced Unit for Spiritual Civilization Construction". Today, Tianjin Science and Technology Museum has become a favorite cultural and leisure place for the people of Tianjin and a major tourist attraction on the coast of Bohai Sea, playing a very important role in the construction of Tianjin's spiritual civilization and improving the scientific and cultural quality of the public.
