Tchogha Zanbil
Chogha Zanbil is the remains of a sacred Elamite city surrounded by three massive concentric walls. Construction began around 1250 BC but was left unfinished after the invasion of Ashurbanipal, as evidenced by the thousands of unused bricks left on the site.
Chaco Culture
For more than 2,000 years, the Pueblo people have inhabited a large area of the southwestern United States. Chaco Canyon was the main center of the Ancestral Pueblo culture from 850 to 1250 AD and the center of ceremonial, trade, and political activity in the prehistoric Four Corners region. Chaco is known for its magnificent public and ceremonial buildings and unique architecture—it features an ancient urban ceremonial center unlike anything built before or since. In addition to Chaco Culture National Historical Park, the World Heritage Site includes Aztec Ruins National Monument and several smaller Chaco sites managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
Historic City of Ayutthaya
Founded around 1350, Ayutthaya was the second Siamese capital after Sukhothai. It was destroyed by the Burmese in the 18th century. The remains of Ayutthaya, featuring stupas and huge temples, are reminders of its former glory.
Summer Palace, an Imperial Garden in Beijing
The Summer Palace in Beijing was first built in 1750, mostly destroyed in the war of 1860, and restored on the original site in 1886. It is a masterpiece of Chinese garden design. The natural landscape of hills and open waters is combined with artificial landscapes such as pavilions, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious whole with outstanding aesthetic value.
