Xiayang's "Victory Drum" originated in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and has a history of more than 300 years. According to historical records: In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, there was a Xiayang man named Xue who served as a flag bearer in Zheng Chenggong's army and was good at playing drums. He participated in the battle to recover Taiwan. After returning home in his old age, he taught the skills of playing drums to the young people in the village. Since then, Xiayang has the skill of playing drums. "Victory Drum" was originally called Battle Drum and Guoxing Drum, with different names. In the 1950s after the founding of New China, Nanping City art experts reorganized the drum into Victory Drum. It aims to perform a kind of war drum formation drill during the march of the national hero Zheng Chenggong to recover Taiwan. It was changed to a folk dance performance and put on the stage, highlighting the local characteristics. In recent years, "Victory Drum" has become a traditional folk dance program in our province. It was invited to participate in the second national folk dance rehearsal and participated in provincial and municipal activities and performances many times. At the opening ceremony of China's second World Tourism Day (Fujian main venue) in September 1990, Xiayang Victory Drum was performed for Chinese and foreign tourists for the first time. In June 1992, Fujian Province performed at the opening ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Chairman Mao's "Speech in Yan'an". In February 1993, Fujian TV's Spring Festival Gala "Eight Fujian Music Tonight" was broadcast live. In May 1995, the crew of Taiwan's "Begonia Style" TV series came to Xiayang to shoot the "Victory Drum". In October 1996, he was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the "1996 Xu Xiake Cultural Tourism Festival" in Wuyi Mountain. In September 1999, he participated in the opening ceremony of the 3rd Fujian Art Festival organized by the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and the Fuzhou Municipal People's Government. Today, Xiayang's "Victory Drum" is not only played by the elderly and middle-aged people, but also by children aged 11 or 12. The majestic and bold drum sound heralds this wonderful flower of folk traditional culture.
