Changning printmaking has a history of more than 50 years since its development in the 1960s. It has cultivated more than 300 printmakers, mainly teachers, workers, and farmers. Many of their works have won awards in various competitions and have been exhibited abroad. Changning is also known as the "Hometown of Printmaking" because of its large printmaking creation group, many works, and wide influence. In 2008, Changning printmaking was named "Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art" by the Ministry of Culture. Changning printmaking is a gorgeous artistic wonder in southern Hunan. Its simple, natural, and exquisite artistic techniques depict the local natural landscape, ethnic customs, rural changes, and the joys and sorrows of workers from multiple angles. Changning printmaking has a strong breath of life and local characteristics. It is rooted in the beautiful land of Changning with vigorous vitality. In terms of printmaking expression, Changning printmaking has developed from a single black and white woodcut to a variety of forms such as rich color oil printing, watermark, powder printing, and silk screen. In terms of the value of prints, Changning prints have developed from participating in exhibitions and competitions to entering the market, participating in exhibitions and auctions. In the past three years, domestic and foreign art dealers have signed contracts with Changning prints to order prints. The current situation and development trend of Changning prints: At present, the market economy has entered an orderly period, and the print market has continued to heat up, bringing an unprecedented opportunity for the development of Changning prints. There are more than 250 authors in the Changning print community. These authors come from all walks of life, including cultural cadres, teachers, students, medical staff, workers, farmers, private owners and other professional authors. At present, there are 2 members of the National Artists Association, 2 members of the China Print Association, 12 members of the Provincial Artists Association, and 38 members of the Provincial Printmaking Society in the Changning printmaking team. According to the mode of print market operation, the price change of Changning print works in the market will produce two trends: first, the works whose creative level progresses slowly will not increase much every year; second, a group of authors will continue to improve their creative level, and their works will often be exhibited and awarded in the country. With the increasing fame, the price of their works in the market will increase by leaps and bounds. According to this market law, the Changning print group will naturally be divided into two forces. One is the authors with relatively low creative ability and it is difficult to improve their basic skills all at once. They will aim at the low-end market, promote the formation of Changning print industry, and solve the employment problems of many people; the other is driven by the market and the opening of vision. In the long-term creation, a group of authors with high artistic standards have emerged. Their works are often exhibited, awarded and published in major exhibitions. Through their works, they have influenced and inspired the general public and have been recognized by the people. The market also gives them feedback, and the price of their works has increased significantly, playing a leading role in promoting and stabilizing the Changning print industry. No matter which of these two situations it belongs to, it is beneficial to promote Changning's economy, promote Changning's culture, purify Changning's atmosphere, etc. Changning prints will take a road of art and market going hand in hand for a long time. With its group power at home and abroad, it will have a strong impact on people's vision, and the social value and economic value generated by this will be immeasurable. Changning printmaking process: Before briefly describing the production of Changning prints, first briefly introduce the classification of prints, according to the material: 1) Woodblock prints can be divided into out-of-print color prints and multi-plate color prints; according to their materials, they can be divided into oil prints and watermark prints. At present, Changning prints are mainly out-of-print color prints and watermark prints. 2) Silkscreen prints; 3) Copperplate prints; 4) Lithographs; 5) Plaster prints; 6) Comprehensive prints; 7) Other prints. The following is a brief introduction to the production process of Changning prints, taking the out-of-print oil-printed color prints as an example: out-of-print oil-printed color prints are a type of oil-printed color prints. All the color plates of a painting are concentrated on one plate, and the creation method of engraving and printing is gradually reduced, so it can also be called "reduced plate method". Because the process of engraving prints in this way is a natural process of plate destruction, which cannot be reversed, and the original plate can no longer print the work after the work is completed, it is usually called out-of-print oil-printed color prints, which is different from the traditional plate-by-plate printing method. 1. Conceive and draw a sketch; 2. Put the sketch on the plate; There are currently two commonly used methods. One is the more traditional old-fashioned method of putting on the plate. First, cover the sketch with transparent paper, outline the sketch with a pencil, and then print the reverse side on the woodblock with carbon paper, and then carve it out with a woodcut knife according to the outline on the woodblock; the other is the more advanced new method of putting on the plate. First, take a high-definition photo of the sketch, and then make it into a photo that is exactly the same size as the expected print based on the photo (the produced photo pattern cannot be filmed), and then evenly wet the woodblock with water, and print the unfilmed photo pattern on the woodblock. After it dries, evenly brush a layer of varnish on the woodblock. At this point, the sketch putting on the plate process is basically completed. 3. Coloring the plates; the author can choose to color from light to dark or from dark to light according to the needs of the work. After each color is printed, the color should be washed with kerosene or gasoline before carving the next set of plates, coloring and printing. Only one color can be printed each time, and this cycle is repeated until the expected number of sets of colors are printed and the work is completed. The disadvantage of out-of-print color prints is that the original version has been destroyed when the work is completed, making it an out-of-print work. But this is also the unique charm of out-of-print oil-printed color prints, making them extremely valuable for collection.
