🎧  Listen to Introduction

Sanxi Axe is a well-known brand of local handicraft products. It was originally a planned product in Xianning and won the Excellent Product Award from the Hubei Light Industry Bureau. Before liberation, the ironmaking industry in the old Sanxi Street was well-known for its superb skills, including Wu Xiudeng and other masters. In 1954, an iron industry society was established in Sanxi Street. In 1958, Zhou Kuanliang and Xiong Fusheng from Jiangxi were recruited to form a mutual aid group farm tool factory with more than 30 people. From 1948 to 1986, it was still very prosperous, with 9 red furnaces and a daily output of 300 iron tools. In the planned economy era, steel materials were approved and supplied by the regional planning committee, and products were sold to Yangxin Hardware Company, Xianning Secondary Station, Jiangxi, Shanghai and other places. Master Zou Zhimiao still has two furnaces in production. The process includes: refining materials in a big red furnace, hammering the blank, manual processing and forging, die grinding, initial polishing, color quenching, re-polishing, anti-rust paint, and packaging. There are four types of models: 3.5 catties (large), 3 kg (large and medium), 2.7 catties (small and medium), and 2 catties (small).
