Zhejiang
🎧  Listen to Introduction

The ancient town of Nianbadu is surrounded by passes and is less disturbed by wars. It still has two relatively intact ancient commercial streets of about 1 km long and 36 ancient residential buildings. Fengxi Street in the town was preserved in the last century. It is too narrow to pass cars, but there are dense shops on both sides, and every household is close to each other. The residents' homes are very clean and tidy, and traditional signs are hung in front of the door. It stretches three miles from one end of the street to the other, and it has become a street full of cultural atmosphere in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are 11 public buildings including the Confucius Temple, the Great King Temple, the Wenchang Pavilion, the Wanshou Palace, the Zhenwu Zhou, the Zhongyi Temple, the Guanyin Pavilion, the Old Yamen, and the Xinxing Society. In addition, more than 20 ancient residential buildings basically maintain the architectural style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its architectural style is different from the "Four Waters Returning to the Hall" waterside residential buildings in Zhejiang and Anhui. It integrates the architectural styles of Zhejiang-style wood carvings, Anhui-style brick carvings, Gan-style gray walls, northern Fujian Hakka style, and even Rococo style. Especially the two Wenchang Pavilions, large and small, have preserved a large number of murals with considerable cultural value and inscriptions of the Infant Protection Bureau, which are rare in China. Therefore, it is called the "Folk Architecture Expo Hall". Its large scale, high artistic level, and complete preservation are rare in China.
