Dingjiawu Lantern has a long history. It is said that it began in the late Southern Song Dynasty: There was a military minister named Ding in the court. He was upright and hated treacherous people. He was demoted for offending the emperor, and his family fled to Nanzhou Village, Xiaojiang Town, Xinchang County. His descendants moved to Dingjiawu Village, Chengnan Township in the Yuan Dynasty. It is said that he created the dance "Lantern" and organized a "Lantern" team to perform in four villages and eight townships. The protagonist of "Lantern" selected loyal people from the Han, Three Kingdoms and Song dynasties to praise them, and severely denounced Mao Yanshou, who was seeking glory, as a representative of treacherous people. The characters are positive and negative, and their love and hate are clear, which is welcomed by the people. Therefore, it has been passed down from generation to generation through the Yuan, Ming, Qing and Republic of China, and it has not been extinct until now. In 1985, it was included in the "Collection of Chinese National Folk Dances, Shaoxing Volume, Zhejiang Province". Lantern is also called "Diao Ma". The performance begins with the "Riding Tune" symphony of gongs, drums and suona. The performers are divided into two groups, A and B. The grooms A and B lead one group each. The four flag bearers are divided into two rows. They hold the flags in front of their chests with both hands and take the lead in the music. The grooms A and B wear black clothes, red scarves on their heads, and black flat boots. They take the lead in two small flip buckets. Then the two groups of horses A and B appear respectively: Wang Zhaojun, Princess Shuangyang, Guan Yu, Zhuge Liang, Zhao Yun, etc. in Group A; Princess Shanyang, Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, Di Qing, Mao Yanshou, etc. in Group B. Each of them matches the horse lantern, like riding a horse. The performers jump on the horse and whip, walk at a leisurely pace, sometimes slow and sometimes fast. Only Mao Yanshou wears a flowery face and performs various ugly postures. The flag bearers lead the two groups to sing and perform in a series of formations to the accompaniment of music. The formation changes are varied, including "cigarette song", "yuanbao formation", "scissors formation", "around four corners", "breaking ten gates", "inside coiling dragon", "outside coiling dragon", "stepping on five directions", "turning triangle" and so on. The accompaniment is the lantern tune, and the lyrics include "Song of the World", "Ten Scented Bags", "Ten Dressing Tables", "Ten Tea Picking", "Ten Gongs" and other folk songs. The content is mostly to use the past to illustrate the present, praising the loyal and righteous, and denouncing the evil, with profound meaning. Today's lyrics have also kept pace with the times and have been changed to praise the new atmosphere and various new things in the countryside. In November 2008, it was included in the second batch of Shaoxing City's intangible cultural heritage list.
