Fenghua peach cultivation techniques
According to records such as Records of the Underworld and the Peach Blossom Spring, peaches and the technology of growing peaches were widely praised as early as 2,000 years ago. The history of growing peaches in Fenghua can be found in the Song Dynasty. Among the special products of Siming listed in the Records of Fenghua County of Siming in Baoqing, Southern Song Dynasty, there is "Peach Fruits of Tinghe River", and its place of origin is Changting Village, Jinping Street. The owners of the famous peach garden in Changting Village are also listed in the genealogy of the Zhang family, such as Zhang Yunzhi, the owner of "Muyi Garden", who was born in the 24th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty; Zhang Weilue, who was born in the 40th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty, is the owner of "Yugui Garden". However, with the continuous innovation of cultivation technology, the quality, yield, and time to market of peaches are also constantly updated. Fenghua peaches are famous because of the beautiful shape, soft texture, sweet juice, rich aroma, easy to melt in the mouth, and popular Yu Lu peaches, which are known as "Jade Dew" and "Yaochi Treasures". The reason why this kind of peach has such outstanding qualities is that Fenghua peach farmers have summed up a set of special cultivation techniques in long-term practice. The cultivation of Yu Lu peaches began during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. Zhang Yinchong, a horticultural farmer from Sanshiliuwan, Xikou Town, settled in a family that grew peaches in Huangniqiang, Ximen, Shanghai. After learning the cultivation technology of Longhua peaches, he introduced the variety to his hometown and grafted it with local peaches to breed it, thus becoming the first generation of Yu Lu peaches. By around 1925, this variety was widespread in Xikou, Daqiao (Jinping, Yuelin), Xiaowangmiao, Jiangkou, Xiwu, Chunhu, Qiucun and other towns. Fenghua peaches are popular in Shanghai, and their taste is better than other fruits. They are known as "a load of peaches can make rich men smile and attract fairies to come down from the Yaotai". The price of 100 jin (jin) is 3,550 silver yuan. In June 1996, the Development Research Center of the State Council named Fenghua "China's Hometown of Peaches"; in August of the same year, the conclusion of the evaluation committee composed of nine experts from Zhejiang Agricultural University, Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, etc. was that "the flavor and quality are the best in the country." The main cultivation techniques are: 1. Soil improvement; 2. Timely planting; 3. Grafting technology; 4. Fertilizer and water management; 5. Pruning and crowning; 6. Flower and fruit thinning; 7. Disease and insect control; 8. Picking and packaging. Yulu peaches have high requirements for climate and soil quality. If the same variety is planted in different soils, the quality of peaches will be different. Due to the need for urban development, the area available for growing Jade Dew has been greatly reduced. There are also factors such as air pollution, aging of fruit trees, and difficulty in increasing yields compared to other new varieties. Industry insiders believe that if this continues, the real "Jade Dew" will eventually become history.
