Xinyi folk paper-cutting has a long history among the local people. It has a long history and tradition, a broad mass base and deep regional characteristics. The paper-cutting has a wide range of themes and rich content. It mainly reflects people's aesthetic pursuit and good wishes for auspiciousness, good fortune, well-being and happiness. The main forms are patterns, window flowers, fireworks and sacrificial flowers. Xinyi paper-cutting is mainly based on traditional themes, using traditional homophony, meaning, symbolism and other methods to express people's auspicious and beautiful life. For example, patterns such as lotus, goldfish, carp and so on mean "surplus year after year" and "surplus year after year"; pine, cypress, crane, fairy peach and so on mean "pine crane prolongs life"; swastika knot and Ruyi mean "auspicious and good fortune"; and so on. Paper-cutting is mainly distributed in various villages in Xinyi, and each natural village has some women who can cut patterns. In the mid-1980s, after the cultural department consciously promoted the popularization of paper-cutting, it cultivated students' interest in paper-cutting in schools. Now there are some paper-cutting enthusiasts in villages and communities throughout the street. Paper-cutting artist Zhang Qipei is the leader of Xinqi paper-cutting and has played an active role in popularizing paper-cutting in Gaotang area. For more than 20 years, he has not only persisted in his own creation and research, but many of his works have participated in paper-cutting exhibitions at all levels and won awards. His "Good Days" is also collected by the National Museum. At present, Xinqi paper-cutting has a certain mass base among the people, and there are a group of leaders who have created many excellent works. However, folk paper-cutting is still in danger of being lost.
