Jingning She Nationality March 3rd Festival
The third day of the third lunar month is a traditional festival of the She people, and the importance they attach to it is comparable to the Spring Festival. Jingning County, Zhejiang Province is the only She autonomous county in the country, and the She people's March 3rd custom is spread here. Every March 3rd, every household in the She village slaughters livestock and worships their ancestors. In addition, the She people also choose this day as the day for men and women to get married. According to legend, the She uprising army in the Tang Dynasty was defeated and retreated into the mountains. Due to lack of food and grass, they ate a black wild fruit called "Wunan" to satisfy their hunger. The army was greatly boosted and broke out of the encirclement on the third day of March. From then on, every March 3rd, the She people would pick Wunian leaves and boil the juice, mix it with rice and cook it to commemorate it. Making and eating Wunian became an important activity on March 3rd. After nightfall, the She people will hold a bonfire singing party, singing to each other, performing traditional songs and dances, dragon lantern dance, lion dance, fish lantern dance, torch dance, etc., and also hold traditional She sports competitions. The She ethnic group's March 3rd Festival is an important bond for maintaining the unity of the She people, and it also plays an important role in strengthening the unity of the She and Han ethnic groups. The She people have no written language, and the singing of the March 3rd Festival is required to be sung in the She language, which objectively plays a role in protecting the She language. During the festival, She men, women, old and young all wear ethnic costumes, which objectively helps to protect and inherit ethnic costumes. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
