Yaogang Nuo Opera (the fifth batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage list) Chongren Yaogang Nuo Opera is a folk dance spread in Yaogang Village, Xiangshan Town, Chongren County. It is performed from the first to the fifteenth day of the first lunar month every year to pray for the villagers to eliminate disasters. It has been passed down since the late Qing Dynasty and has become a major local folk activity. Yaogang Nuo Opera has a complete set of rituals. On the morning of the first day of the first lunar month, eight disciples go to the ancestral temple to invite the gods to take their seats. The master recites the formula to invite six immortals to come down. After washing the masks of the six immortals, they can dress up and perform. On the first day of the first lunar month, they perform door to door in the village for one day. From the second day to the fourteenth day of the first lunar month, they perform in the surrounding villages, and on the fifteenth day, they perform in the village again. A ceremony to invite the gods back to their seats is held on the evening of the fifteenth. Yaogang Nuo Opera is performed by a total of eight disciples. Six of them play the roles of She Gong (Emperor Xuanyuan), She Po, Zhong Kui, Judge, Guan Gong, and Little Ghost. One carries a box and the other receives the money and property offered by the villagers. When performing door to door, firecrackers are set off to welcome and send off the performers. Generally, the performers pray for blessings and ward off disasters for the villagers. If the villagers request to perform in the hall, the full set of "Mianligong" will be performed. The full set of "Mianligong" has three stories: catching the little ghost (also called fighting Zhong Kui), the little ghost stole the iron chain of Zhong Kui's magic weapon, and was subdued by the community god after he succeeded; the little ghost stole the knife, and Guan Gong was drunk. In order to protect Guan Gong, the community god fanned the little ghost away with a fan and cast a spell to protect Guan Gong. The little ghost wanted to kill Guan Gong and stole his sword and knife, but he succeeded but could not kill Guan Gong; playing with lanterns (also called the judge), the community god danced and sang on the way to watch the lanterns, which was quite interesting.
