Wengang Town, Jinxian, is located on the east bank of the lower reaches of Fuhe River in Jiangxi Province. It is the hometown of Yan Shu, the prime minister and famous poet of the Northern Song Dynasty. There are more than 30 kinds of brush-making tools in Wengang. The raw materials are mainly high-quality goat hair, mountain rabbit hair, yellow wolf tail hair, civet hair and bamboo plants. There are 126 production processes, which are mainly divided into six major processes: core hair production, hair protection production, grass ash production, pen holder production and core holder assembly, pen treatment and packaging production. Each process can be further divided into many small processes. The craftsmanship is sophisticated, the ingredients are evenly matched, and the production is exquisite. It combines the four virtues of brushes, "sharp, even, round, and strong", and integrates practicality, appreciation, and collection. It is hard and soft, can be hard or soft, absorbs water strongly, writes fluently, and is as sharp as a line. It can be drawn with iron and silver hooks, can be gathered and withdrawn, and is handy and free to write. Wengang brushes are of various varieties, complete types of pens, and novel styles, as big as a broom and as small as a needle, and both long and short. The categories include wolf, purple, chicken, sheep, and five-hair brushes; the decoration is divided into four tubes of black, white, flower, and kang; the brush tips are red, green, yellow, white, cyan, blue, and purple. In recent years, famous traditional products such as "pure purple hair", "seven purples and three sheep", and "Mo Han" have been produced, which are famous in Japan, Singapore and other countries. There are also 19 popular export varieties such as "calligrapher's wonderful products", "a hundred flowers in full bloom", "Jinxian unique", "Baiyun wolf hair", "wool small regular script", and "top pure wolf hair". At present, the annual output of Wengang brushes has reached more than 1.2 million. Wengang brush production has been in the form of family workshops since ancient times, from father to son, mother to daughter, and from generation to generation. After the founding of New China, the Lidu Brush Factory, a professional production factory, was established in Wengang Town, Jinxian County. Today, there are 2,378 Wengang brush workshops, with more than 14,000 employees, and the products are exported to more than a dozen countries and regions. On the basis of inheriting traditional craftsmanship, Wengang people have innovated the technology to make the brush tips colorful, with all seven colors available; the pen holders have different shapes and countless charms, and brush making technicians such as Zhou Pengcheng and Zou Nonggeng have emerged.
