Ganyu Kite Making Technique
Kite making skills (extension), a traditional art project of the sixth batch of representative expansion projects of intangible cultural heritage at the municipal level in Lianyungang City. Kite making skills are a folk craft with a long history in my country. According to the "Ganyu County Chronicles", in ancient times, the custom of flying kites around Qingming Festival has been popular in Ganyu. This custom is still popular today. Its process flow includes: splitting bamboo, picking firewood--making the skeleton--top, painting the top line, adding the tail--test flight. Commonly made kites include hard-wing kites, soft-wing kites, board kites, three-dimensional kites, and string kites. The main ones are small swallows, butterflies, "Seven Stars, Eight Diagrams, Nine Full Feathers", etc. One difference from kites from other places is that the reed catkins on the top of the firewood are used as balance poles, and the rest are the same. But when making bird kites, live eyes, live tails, and live legs are important. Flying skills include "delivering meals" and other skills. Related customs: Generally, kites are flown during the Qingming Festival. But Ganyu can do it all year round; generally, kites start flying after the Lantern Festival.
