Fine wood craftsmanship
Fine woodworking skills, a traditional skills project in the third batch of representative expanded projects of Wuxi's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Traditional furniture is generally divided into four categories: chair frames, tables and dining tables, beds and cabinets. The first step in making traditional furniture is to select materials, and then the master craftsmen carefully select materials, cut materials, cut tenons, carve, assemble, bond, polish, and finally apply raw lacquer and wax. It is carefully made in strict accordance with traditional craftsmanship and classic mortise and tenon structure. As early as the late Qing Dynasty, the traditional furniture and farm tool workshop founded by Zou Jinxi was very famous within a radius of 100 miles. It once customized mahogany and hardwood furniture for the famous Yang family and Xue family from the ancient town of Shitou; it made residential furniture and hundreds of sets of hall and room furniture for the local capitalist Lu Zirong, such as Sanwu Pavilion (Xizhang Silkworm Seed Farm).
