Jiawang clay pot firing technique is a traditional skill project in the second batch of representative projects of Xuzhou's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Jiawang clay pot firing technique developed from Tupen Village in Jiawang. According to the "Jiawang Chronicles", more than 100 years ago, an old man surnamed Zhang from Teng County, Shandong Province, fled to Jiawang and lived in Taohua Village, more than ten miles away from Jiawang (because it was famous for firing pots and basins, it was called "Tupen Village"). In order to survive, he combined the ancestral skills of firing clay pots with the local firing technology, built earth kilns, used local red clay, fired pots and basins to make a living, and the firing technique has been passed down to this day. Jiawang clay pot firing technique uses a local red clay as raw material, and its process includes four parts: raw material processing, object forming, kiln loading, and firing. Jiawang clay pot firing technique has its unique characteristics. The selected red clay must be dried, mixed with water, and piled indoors and covered with a wet cloth. When using it, step on it repeatedly with your feet. After stepping on it to a certain degree, use tools to divide the mud into equal parts, then put it on the earthen machine, turn the turntable, and rely on the artist's skills and the touch of his hands to make various shapes of utensils. Some are also kneaded by hand into various patterns, decorations and carvings. Then put it in a ventilated place to dry or air dry, and finally put it into the earthen kiln for firing. The firing technique of Jiawang earthenware pots is very unique, and the various utensils fired are of strong quality and durable. These pots, basins, jars and other products that look very "earthy" have become indispensable utensils for the general public, especially rural people. The firing technique of Jiawang clay pots originated from the folk and has a high level of folk traditional cultural expression. The daily necessities made by the firing technique of Jiawang clay pots are sturdy and durable, inexpensive and of good quality, and are deeply welcomed by the people, with good practical value. The daily necessities made by the firing technique of Jiawang clay pots have smooth shapes, rich expressions, exquisiteness in roughness, and simplicity in roughness, and have high ornamental value.
