Straw weaving (Xinyi straw raincoat weaving technique)
Straw weaving (Xinyi straw raincoat weaving technique), a traditional skill project in the fourth batch of representative projects of municipal intangible cultural heritage in Xinyi City, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Straw raincoats were commonly used by people in the old days, and they were indispensable for work and walking. In the Xinyi area, the materials used to weave straw raincoats include thatch, sorghum leaf pants, etc. To make a straw raincoat, you must first use a good hemp rope to tie the collar. The number of buttons tied by the rope and grass on the collar determines the size of the straw raincoat, just like the number of buttons when knitting a sweater with wool. In the process of weaving from the collar to the bottom, the flower collar and grid pattern woven with thatch are extremely beautiful and varied geometric patterns, and they are three-dimensional. From pulling the thatch to making a straw raincoat, many hours of work must be invested. Sometimes farmers will not change their new cotton clothes even if they have made a new straw raincoat. Farmers wear this raincoat when they go to the market, visit relatives and friends. It can block the sun in sunny days and protect against wind and rain in cloudy days. It is both a piece of clothing and a blanket, and is very popular among farmers. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
