Zhou's Chinese medicine for rheumatism is a traditional medicine project in the fourth batch of representative projects of Changzhou's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Zhou's Chinese medicine for rheumatism originated in the late Qing Dynasty and has been passed down for six generations, with a history of more than a hundred years. The first-generation inheritor Zhou Xinglin was familiar with Chinese medicine classics such as "Huangdi Neijing" and "Suwen Yibi", and realized the theoretical essence of "wind, cold and dampness are mixed together to form bi, injury to the internal organs is five internal organs bi, injury to the tendons, bones, skin, flesh and blood is body bi". In the treatment of rheumatism and rheumatoid diseases, it has its own unique Chinese medicine treatment method, and on the basis of inheriting the traditional preparation of drugs used by predecessors, combined with clinical experience, acupuncture and other physical therapies, symptomatic treatment of rheumatism and other diseases. The fifth-generation inheritors of Zhou's Chinese medicine for rheumatism are brothers Zhou Huizhong, Zhou Jiezhong, Zhou Xingzhong, and Zhou Baozhong. Among them, Zhou Huizhong is the most representative. Zhou Huizhong has been influenced and nurtured by his predecessors since he was a child, familiar with Chinese medicine theory, and has been engaged in Chinese medicine treatment and research for more than 40 years. He used ancestral secret recipes, combined with acupuncture, external application, fumigation, and foaming therapy, to treat the disease dialectically. When treating rheumatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, cervical and lumbar disc herniation, gout and other diseases, he used foaming therapy, combined with external application drugs and fire needles, to make the effect more significant. Patients who came to the hospital for treatment came from all over the country, including compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao and overseas Chinese. So far, more than 100,000 patients with rheumatism have been treated. Zhou's traditional Chinese medicine for rheumatism, the representative of the internal medicine is "Strychnine Powder". The strychnine in "Strychnine Powder" is bitter and cold in nature and has a strong toxicity. It needs to be processed and prepared many times to make its medicinal properties mild before it can be taken. Its effects are to dispel wind and dampness, promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, dredge meridians and relieve pain, and reduce swelling and resolve knots. There are representative prescriptions such as Strychnine No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3. When using it, after the four examinations of observation, questioning, smelling and palpation, dialectical treatment is applied, addition and subtraction are made according to the symptoms, and the medicine is used flexibly. The selected medicine is ground into powder, and the patient is asked to take it according to the doctor's instructions. The Zhou Huizhong Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic, which is now open, is a specialist with traditional advantages and diagnosis and treatment characteristics. After long-term and unremitting efforts, it has inherited and carried forward the traditional experience of Zhou's traditional Chinese medicine treatment of rheumatism, combined with its own years of clinical practice, and fully exerted the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine, effectively treating rheumatism with the concepts of syndrome differentiation and treatment, and internal and external treatment. Today, Zhou Huizhong's daughter Zhou Peijuan, Zhou Jiezhong's daughter Zhou Li, and Zhou Baozhong's son Zhou Yiqiang have all studied in medical schools and have become the sixth generation of successors under the guidance of their fathers, allowing the treatment to be inherited and continued.
