Siyang Qinshu

Jiangsu
🎧  Listen to Introduction

There are many types of Qinshu, including Beijing Qinshu, Wuxiang Qinshu, Xuzhou Qinshu, Anhui Qinshu, Shandong Qinshu, Sichuan Qinshu, Yunnan Qinshu, etc. Siyang Qinshu belongs to the Xuzhou Qinshu system. Originally named Silk String, it was accompanied by Yangqin in the Qing Dynasty, also known as "Dangqin" or "Manqin", and was renamed Qinshu after liberation. Siyang Qinshu was introduced from Xuzhou under the influence of the Yellow River. As early as the Ming and Qing Xiaoqu, it evolved step by step from "Xiaoqu'er", "Xiaochu'er", "Singing Qu'er", "Singing Children", etc. to form a kind of music system and joint song. Its performance forms are diverse, including solo singing, duet singing, three-person sitting singing and multi-person joint singing. The singing style is also very rich. In addition to the "four-sentence tune" and "chop board" styles, there are dozens of tunes such as "Dieduanqiao", "Manjianghong", "Shanghexiahe Diao", and "Yinniusi". When artists perform on stage, the lead singer usually sits in the middle (some perform standing now), playing the board and the piano, and the accompaniment is on the left and right, mainly yangqin, pendant, hand board, and sanxian, soft bow huqin, guzheng, porcelain plate, etc. The lyrics are also divided into seven-character sentences, ten-character sentences and long and short sentences according to the music. The singer can freely use the lyrics according to the content and sentence format of the lyrics on the spot, generally singing is the main, supplemented by speaking. Traditional repertoires include "Li Shuangxi Borrowing Years", "Bar Dog Complaining", "Splashing Water in Front of the Horse", "Zhu Bajie Arching the Ground", etc. The singing themes are very wide. If a repertoire cannot be sung in one time, it will be divided into the next time until it is finished. Therefore, the bizarre stories performed are not only interesting, but also full of suspense, and are deeply loved by the general public. Qinshu rap is unique in form and is not restricted by venue. It can be sung in courtyards, villages, streets, and fields, or rapped in large theaters. The audience can be as few as a few people, dozens or even hundreds of people. The time for rapping is mostly on market days in rural towns and in the evenings after farmers' work. Blind Ding Shiyun is an outstanding representative of the Qinshu art world in our county. He has loved Qinshu all his life, studied Qinshu art diligently, and made innovations in tunes and singing, forming the unique style of "Ding's Qinshu". He is also a patriotic and party-loving artist. During the Anti-Japanese War and the Great Production, he compiled and performed new pieces such as "Siyang County", "Likou Town", "Destroy Chengdaokou", "Sancha Fights the Japs", "Xu Erge Crying for His Wife", and "Two Old Men Talking", which were sung everywhere and had excellent publicity effects. After liberation, he sorted out and excavated the traditional program "Little Second Sister Looks at Her Husband" and participated in the Jiangsu Province Quyi Festival, winning the first prize. The famous programs of "Ding's Qinshu" include "The Story of the Qing Dynasty", "The Story of the White Silk", "Li Liangfang Refuses to Recognize His Ex-wife", "Zhao Guanbao Goes to His Relatives" and more than 20 other pieces. Ding Shiyun made great contributions to the development of Qinshu art. He passed on the art of Qinshu to his descendants. His son, daughter-in-law, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, grandson's wife, nephew, nephew's wife, etc. all learned to sing Qinshu and became a "Qinshu family". He also trained 12 apprentices from Siyang, Shuyang, Huaiyin, Lianshui, Xuyi and other counties, including Lu Chenggao and Wu Tongbo. Qinshu was sung all over northern Jiangsu. Today, despite the rapid development of science and technology and the rich and colorful people's culture, Qinshu, as a traditional art wonder blooming in northern Jiangsu, is still deeply loved by the rural masses for its convenient rap and fast content change (it can be compiled and sung according to the new situation). It has become a must-have meal for local people to cool off in summer. Information source: Siyang County People's Government Office (no pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
