Lanterns (Nantong Lanterns) Extension Lanterns, also known as "flower lanterns", have a history of nearly 2,000 years. They are closely related to the folk custom of watching lanterns during the Lantern Festival. According to research, watching lanterns during the Lantern Festival began in the Western Han Dynasty, flourished in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and was particularly popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The shape of Nantong lanterns emphasizes "spiritual resemblance" and has the original characteristics of traditional Chinese lantern art. It does not emphasize the excessive refinement of the works, but shows the vivid form of the works and the vigorous spirit. It integrates abstract composition, anthropomorphic sculpture, flat painting and calligraphy, composite decoration and light-driven mechanism. It is a comprehensive spatial art with strong national characteristics. Nantong lantern art is not only a decoration and aesthetic object of the festival, but also a widespread existence and infinite humanistic care.
