Nantong woodblock New Year paintings (Haian woodblock New Year paintings) are an extension of the traditional art category of the fifth batch of representative projects of Nantong's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Hai'an woodblock New Year paintings include the customs of the 24 solar terms, Spring Festival door gods, Wenchang Bodhisattva (children going to school), the Goddess of Childbearing (marrying and having children), good weather and good harvests (the Goddess of the Land), and the Kitchen God. In terms of use, they can be posted on the gates of folk Spring Festival, or used in folk land temples to serve traditional sacrifices, and can also be used for celebrations by merchants in towns. Hai'an prints are generally not colored, and even if they are colored, they are filled with colors with a brush (mainly yellow, red, green and purple). The paper used for woodblock New Year paintings has changed from traditional white newspapers to monochrome Wannianhong rice paper, which is festive. The use of modern mounting techniques that are either simple or luxurious gives the simple and enthusiastic traditional New Year paintings a youthful atmosphere.
