Flower shed dance is commonly known as "Nuo dance". It was introduced to Huazhou in the late Ming Dynasty when villagers from Dajingtou Village, Zhuji Lane, Puchang County, Fuzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province, moved to Huazhou. According to research, "Nuo" originated from the sacrificial ritual of totem worship in primitive society, characterized by wearing wooden masks. Nuo dance came first and then Nuo opera. After continuous improvement and refinement, combined with local customs, it has formed a folk dance with ancient and rich local characteristics. It has been popular for hundreds of years and has been passed down to this day. The flower shed where the dance is performed is a straw shed built with bamboo and straw at the edge of Tiantou Village, with big red lanterns and flowers hung on it. The number of actors ranges from more than ten to more than a hundred, and it is decorated with "Seventy-two Sages" and various flowers and plants. There is a fixed script for the dance of flower shed, which is divided into 18 scenes, including welcoming gods, setting up seats, opening the door of the shed, children, scholars, singing, hoeing fields, etc. The content is mostly about farming, love between men and women, and interesting life stories, aiming to exorcise evil spirits and pray for good weather, prosperity and peace, and good harvest. After the autumn harvest every year, villagers in the Zhonghuozhang area of Guanqiao, Huazhou, set up straw sheds at the edge of the village and dance the primitive and rough folk dance "flower shed dance". The performers wear ancient costumes, strange masks, and hold props such as axes, sickles, and hoes. Accompanied by gongs, drums, and horns, they sing and dance to express the joy of "exorcising evil spirits and prosperity and peace". Every day when the "flower shed dance" is performed, it will attract people from all over the country to come and watch with their old and young, and the grand occasion is unprecedented. "The autumn scenery is good, dance the shed dance, celebrate the harvest, 1 nothing." This is a portrayal of the heyday of Huazhou's "flower shed dance" in the 1960s and 1970s. However, with the changes of the times, rural cultural life has become diversified, and the unique beauty of Huazhou's "Flower Jumping" is no longer there. In the 1990s, it gradually declined and was once on the verge of being lost. Now, with the attention of the local cultural department, it has been saved. Flower Jumping reflects the living customs and religious beliefs formed by farming culture. It is an important historical material for studying the development of local society and productivity at that time, and is a valuable material for studying folk culture and religious beliefs.
