Dongkeng landscape originated from an annual Lantern Festival activity in Shangwu Village, Xindong Village, Dongkeng Town. It began during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It was introduced by the ancestors of Shangwu Village from Suzhou Prefecture, Jiangsu Province. With the passage of time, it has been continuously inherited and developed, and has evolved into a mass folk art parade. Dongkeng landscape consists of performance teams, colorful flag teams, garland teams, yangko teams, string lanterns, golden dragons, lion dances, elephant dances, flower baskets, eight-tone gongs and drums, and drum bands. It adopts the form of side-by-side performances. The performance content is based on historical figures and legendary novels, and is compiled into drama programs, such as "Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea", "Eight Immortals Riding Eight Beasts", "Jinshan War Drums", "Journey to the West", "The Fairy Couple", "Mulan Joins the Army", "Three Stars Arching", etc. In September 2005, it participated in the first Pan-Pearl River Delta (Shanwei, Guangdong) Folk Art Cultural and Art Parade. In 2010, it was selected into the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection List.
