Jiulong Peak is located in the western section of the Lotus Mountain Range in the east of Huidong County, Guangdong Province. It is named Jiulong Peak because of its nine ridges that look like dragons. The Jiulong Peak Tan Gong Xiansheng Temple Fair (Da Jiao), which has a history of nearly four or five hundred years, originated here. The Jiulong Peak Tan Gong Xiansheng Temple Fair (Da Jiao) is a blessing ceremony held to commemorate a local legendary figure, Tan Gong. According to historical records, Tan Gong's real name was Tan De. He was born in the Yuan Dynasty and was a native of Honghuayuan, Guishan County (now Huidong County, Huizhou City). Legend has it that when he was three years old, both his parents died. He followed his grandmother to Duozhu Maitian Village to herd cattle. When he was seven or eight years old, he could call the wind and rain, subdue tigers and tame snakes. At the age of thirteen, he became an immortal at the big rock at the foot of the mountain on the north side of Jiulong Peak. Inspired by his miraculous deeds of saving people from water and fire and eliminating disasters for the people, later generations built the "Tan Gong Temple" (that is, the "Longfeng Ancestral Temple") and held a "Ceremony" to worship him. Later, because of his frequent miracles and benefiting the world, he was conferred the title of "Xiangji Tan Gong Xiansheng" by the imperial court in the sixth year of Emperor Xianfeng of the Qing Dynasty. Since then, the reputation of Tan Gong Xiansheng has grown day by day, and the spread of the area has gradually expanded, gradually forming a large-scale traditional temple fair (Da Jiao) with specific rituals and procedures. According to historical records, the Jiulongfeng Tan Gong Da Jiao meeting has a history of nearly four or five hundred years. It is held every four years in the year of Si, You, and Chou, and reached its peak in the early years of the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. Throughout the dynasties, due to the large number of believers, the wide distribution area, the large scale, the high pattern, and the spectacular scene, it has amazed the world. The first Jiao meeting after the restoration of the Xinyi year had 600,000 participants. Now there are hundreds of thousands during the Spring Festival, and tens of millions of people go to worship every day. According to the rituals of Taoism, the Jiulongfeng Dharma Assembly belongs to the "Golden Record", which is mainly for rewarding gods and praying for blessings, so the Jiulongfeng Tan Gong Jiao meeting is also called the "Taiping Fu Jiao". According to traditional customs, the activity period of the Jiaohui is seven days and eight nights. At the beginning of the activity, the elders and famous people of various surnames in the local area must first "ask the imperial edict" to select the host of the Jiaohui and form the Jiaohui Council, the operating organization of the temple fair. The procedure of the Jiaohui is that one month before the opening of the Jiaohui, the host of the Jiaohui must fast and purify himself and swear an oath in front of the statue of Tan Gong. One day before the opening of the Jiaohui, the statue of Tan Gong in the temple must be respectfully invited out of the temple according to the selected time. When the Jiaohui begins, the master ascends the altar, and the master and deputy master of the Jiaohui perform the three kneeling and nine bowing ceremony. Then the master chants the scriptures and plays the table, and the Jiaohui officially begins. Different from the temple fairs of the market type, the procedures of the Tan Gong Xiansheng Jiaohui are more sophisticated, and the rituals are more solemn and grand, including trance, releasing water lanterns, offering sacrifices to orphans, and releasing animals, etc., and each link has a specific procedure. The climax of the festival is not until the release of water lanterns. Then comes the offering of sacrifices to the dead, giving alms to the gods, and praying for the continued protection of the gods. After the festival is over, there is also a ceremony to open the meat, which means to receive blessings. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
