Guangdong
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Xianshui Song is a kind of fishing song sung by fishermen in Guangzhou dialect, also known as "vernacular fishing song", which is mainly circulated in Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Panyu, Shunde, Dongguan, Taishan and other places. In addition, other coastal areas of Guangdong such as Yangjiang, Dianbai, Hong Kong Cheung Chau Island, Macau and other places have fishing songs with similar tunes to "authentic" Xianshui Song. These areas have been dealing with salt water from the sea for a long time, and the name of Xianshui Song is related to this. Xianshui Song generally consists of two sentences in a single section, or four sentences in a compound section. There are solo and duet forms. The latter is the main form. The duet adopts the form of male and female answering each other.
