According to historical records, Chinese dough sculpture art has been recorded in writing as early as the Han Dynasty. After continuous inheritance and operation, it has become a treasure of traditional folk crafts in my country. Judging from the dough servants and piglets unearthed from the Tang Tomb of Astana in Turpan, Xinjiang, it has been at least 1,340 years ago. The "Dream Years of Dongjing" in the Southern Song Dynasty also recorded the making of dough figurines: "There are oil paintings made of molasses like laughing pets." There is also a legend about dough figurines among the people. It is said that when Kong Ming of the Three Kingdoms conquered the Nanman, he encountered a strong wind when crossing the Lujiang River. The witty Kong Ming immediately made human heads and sacrificial models with fabrics to worship the river god, so that the troops crossed the river and successfully pacified the Nanman. In terms of the style of shaping, the Yellow River Basin is simple, rough, bold and profound, while the Yangtze River Basin is delicate, beautiful and exquisite. Chengdu was the center of Bashu culture in history, and dough sculptures have a strong rural cultural atmosphere. It has been carried forward on the basis of inheritance and contributed to the inheritance and development of Chinese dough sculptures. Since its formation in the Han Dynasty, dough sculptures have a history of more than a thousand years. After more than a thousand years of development and inheritance, the following basic characteristics have been formed: dough figurines are not only diverse in categories and varieties, but also have rich characteristics such as stick-insertion type, hanging line type, relief type, whole carving type, micro-carving type, and imitation type; dough figurines can be large or small according to the needs of different occasions, sometimes delicate and exquisite, sometimes rough and unrestrained, forming arbitrary characteristics; many themes of dough figurines are taken from historical allusions. Therefore, the makers are required to have certain knowledge of painting anatomy and literature and history to form rich connotations; dough figurines are formed quickly, the images are realistic and the colors are bright, and the works are easy to preserve and collect. As an ancient folk art, dough figurines have enriched people's lives, especially during the Spring Festival, when people rush to buy and dress up for the arrival of the new year. Preserving the skills of dough figurines has immeasurable value for promoting the spirit of the Chinese nation and protecting traditional national culture, and opening up the prospects of the folk craft market.
