Cangyuan murals

The Cangyuan murals are located on the rocks of Shandong Province in Menglai Township, 62 kilometers northeast of Cangyuan County. Since 1965, 10 rock paintings have been discovered. The area is about 400 square meters, and 1,063 images can be identified, including human figures, animals, houses, roads, villages, caves, trees, boats, the sun, handprints and schematic symbols. The largest picture is 3x27 meters. Most of the paintings are hunting and gathering scenes, as well as dances and wars. The images are dark red silhouettes, painted with iron ore powder and sticky animal blood as pigments. It is estimated that it is more than 3,000 years old. It is a primitive human painting art, which is of great value to the study of Yunnan's ethnic arts and has been listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in Yunnan Province.
