Alxa in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is known as the "hometown of antique carpets". The Alxa carpet weaving technique popular here is one of the five major carpet systems in my country. It is called a wonder in the desert. It has fine and unique workmanship, simple and beautiful patterns, and antique style. In 2008, it was selected into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection projects in my country. The production history of Alxa carpet weaving technique is long. It was born after 1736 AD and has a history of more than 270 years. Alxa carpet weaving technique originated from the Western Regions and inherited the tradition of Arab and Beijing-style court carpets. It is unique in the desert Gobi and has always been respected by experts as the ancestor of carpet craftsmanship. Alxa carpet craftsmanship is complex. It uses local wool as raw material. From design to completion, it needs to go through the process of conception and design, weaving, flattening, cutting, washing, and aging. The main tools used are: spinning wheel, dyeing vat, weaving frame, rake, scissors, etc. Alashan antique carpets are made of Alashan sheep wool, plant-dyed, hand-woven, with unique buckles, chemical washing and traditional special processing. Because Alashan is located in the northern desert, with strong winds and sand and dry ground veins, its wool is coarse and white, with excellent physical properties. The woven carpets are characterized by strong quality, strong elasticity, strong tensile strength and good gloss. The patterns of Alashan carpets are extremely rich, with the most common ones being dragons, phoenixes, eight immortals, four treasures of the study and various auspicious patterns and cloud patterns, Huiwen patterns, and Wan patterns, which are simple and elegant and pray for good luck. The representative work of Alashan carpets, the three-blue antique carpets, are mainly blue and yellow in color, using the knotting technology that has been passed down among the people for thousands of years, and are carefully hand-woven imitating palace patterns. Since the 1980s, Alashan carpets have won many awards in China and are well-known. Representative works of Alashan carpets, such as "Landscape Peony", "Seawater Rising Sun", "Golden Bricks All Over the Ground", "Deer and Cranes in Spring", and "Nine Dragons Embracing Pillars", are all fine products among domestic carpets.
