Shanyang people are divided into the north and the south. Most of the people in the north are descendants of "big locust tree" immigrants, commonly known as "locals", and most of the people in the south are descendants of Jianghuai refugees, commonly known as "Xiahu people". Locals speak Qin dialect, but they are not as stiff as Guanzhong dialect. Xiahu people speak Chu dialect, but they are easier to understand than Jiangnan dialect. The Qin and Chu cultures have influenced each other, forming a rich and prosperous folk customs, mainly manifested in food customs, living customs, marriage customs, festive customs, funeral customs, festival customs, etc. Food customs: Shanyang people are used to three meals a day, but there are also two meals a day. Lingnan farmers "don't see the sky for two meals a day, and lunch is in the middle", while Lingbei farmers "work first and eat later", eat breakfast at nine in the morning, lunch at two in the afternoon, and light dinner. Eat more coarse grains for breakfast, rich dishes for lunch, and stews for dinner. Eat light food and feel at ease when full. There is a jingle "potato soup, lumps of fire, except for the gods, I am the only one". After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, the living standards of Shanyang people have greatly improved, and their eating habits have also changed. However, they still maintain the excellent tradition of diligence, simplicity and thrift. People are used to mixing rice with beans and potatoes. For example, there are more than ten kinds of food, such as corn soup, red bean soup, potato soup, sweet potato soup, mung bean rice, soybean rice, etc. For example, the methods of eating noodles are different in different places. There are dumplings, noodles, steamed buns, mixed soup, noodles, etc. People in Liuling like to eat stewed noodles and soup noodles, people in Juanling like to eat clear water noodles and whistle noodles, and people in the county town and west like to eat oil-splashed noodles and slurry noodles. Living customs: Most of the village courtyards are close to mountains and rivers, and the doors and windows of the houses are mostly facing south. Most of them are one family and one courtyard, and most of the courtyards are civil structures with three rooms. After the reform and opening up, rural housing has undergone tremendous changes. About 15 people in the county have built buildings. Those who are not buildings are also very particular. Most of them are three rooms, painted with white lime inside and outside, and formed courtyard-style farmhouses. The furnishings of the house were simple and practical. Most of them were placed on the back wall of the main hall. A special horizontal board about four feet long and five inches wide was placed on the wall about two or three feet away from the cabinet. It was called "shrine" or "incense shrine". The inner wall was pasted with "incense shrine" written in red paper and ink. Before the Republic of China, the "incense shrine" had "Heaven, Earth, Emperor, Parents, and Teachers" in the middle, "Books and Rites Passed Down from Generation to Generation, Inkstone Fields" on the left, "Fathers Filial and Daughters-in-law, Virtuous Family, Joyful Family" on the right, "Nine Heavens, East Kitchen, Life" in the middle, "+ Clan Hall, Ancestors" on the right, and other "incense couplets" with different contents. The horizontal scroll usually reads "Fu Lu Zhen Xiang". During the "Cultural Revolution", when the "Four Olds" were destroyed and the "Four New" were established, portraits of Mao Zedong were hung. On the left was "Resolutely Follow the Communist Party", on the right was "Always Listen to Chairman Mao" or "Don't Forget the Communist Party after Liberation", "Don't Forget Chairman Mao after Happiness", and the horizontal scroll was "Resolutely Follow the Party" and other couplets. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee, most farmers switched to the old "shrine" format. Marriage customs: Shanyang marriage customs generally go through "matchmaking" and "housekeeping", also known as "blind date", "engagement", "marriage" and other procedures. Shanyang marriage customs are different in Lingnan and Lingbei. After the reform and opening up, in order to change the old customs, most people are free to fall in love, and there are also parents arranging marriages in remote mountainous areas. Festive customs: Shanyang folk customs are mellow. Whenever relatives and friends have something to celebrate, they are happy to go to congratulate and help. In addition to wedding celebrations, the larger ones include "childbirth", "birthday celebrations", "house building", etc., each of which has become a custom. "Childbirth" is generally celebrated at "ten days", "full moon", and "one year old". "Birthday celebrations" are generally celebrated at "thirty-six years old", "forty-nine", and "fifty-nine years old". Building a house is generally celebrated when the house is "out of water". Shanyang has many customs, such as funeral and festival customs, including the Spring Festival, also known as the New Year, the Qingming Festival, the April 8th Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the July 15th Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, etc. The more solemn ones are the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, etc. (No pictures, welcome to provide.)
