Qiang people have many dialects and local dialects, but folk songs are primitive and simple, with a narrow range, generally within 8 degrees, belonging to national modes, pentatonic scale, and hexaphonic scale is very individual; mainly microtonal mode, followed by Gong Shang mode. Most of them are monotonous forms consisting of two or four phrases, with a tonality that tends to be bright major colors and a smooth melody. Wine songs: Qiang people cannot do without wine in weddings, funerals, celebrations, festivals, and entertaining guests. Wine songs include chorus, duet, and solo. Mountain songs: This type of song is mostly improvised, with a wide range, high-pitched tune, and more freedom, so the melody is more special, mainly solo. Love songs: mainly duet and solo, with complete phrase structure, concentrated musical image, rich in metaphors and meanings, and very catchy. The love song begins with "Najinana, Nayousi, Yousi Rena, Rena Zasha", which means: "The songs of Najinana must be sung. If you don't sing the songs of Najinana, you are not your own nation and will forget your ancestors." After singing these four sentences, the content is extended. Labor song: It is the earliest song in the history of the Qiang people. The lyrics are mostly filled with words such as "Ke, Le, Yo, Ta Yi, Oh, Luo". Customs and ritual songs: The fifth day of May every year is a special singing festival for the Qiang people, which is called Walezu in Qiang language. After offering sacrifices to the mountain, people go from village to village and sing from house to house. This kind of ritual song can be performed in weddings and funerals. The ritual songs formed by wizards in activities such as inviting gods, exorcising evil spirits, summoning souls, and burials have simple tunes and are similar to rap.
