The "August 8" Miao Folk Festival is a traditional festival of the Miao people in Xingren County. Every year on the eighth day of the eighth lunar month, when the rice is ripe and harvested, the Miao people in the county and the surrounding areas are filled with the joy of a good harvest. Every household kills chickens and ducks, roasts a pot of hot new glutinous rice wine, cooks a steamer of fragrant glutinous rice for rice, or invites guests, or visits relatives and friends. Men, women, old and young wear festive costumes and gorgeous jewelry, gather together, sing and dance, and celebrate the harvest. The "August 8" Miao Folk Festival originated from a beautiful Miao folk legend. According to legend, in ancient times, heavy rain fell from the sky for a hundred days, and the earth was in ruins, and all living things were in ruins. Only the hardworking and brave Miao boy Ayi and the beautiful and kind girl Alan took their loyal hunting dog Aga and lived in a large wooden basin, drifting with the waves... The flood receded, and the earth was barren. Ayi and Alan stroked the hunting dog Aga sadly, at a loss. Suddenly, Alan's eyes lit up and he found three grains of rice stuck to the dog's tail. He picked them off carefully in surprise. Ayi and Alan were overjoyed. They brought fertile soil, planted carefully, and took care of them day and night. In spring, the seeds sprouted; in summer, the rice blossomed; in autumn, the heavy ears of rice matured. Ayi and Alan were extremely happy and harvested the few rice grains and took them home. They were reluctant to eat a grain of rice, so they stored all the grains as seeds. When the spring came next year, they sowed all the seeds and cultivated them carefully. In autumn, the golden rice matured again. On the eighth day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, the day of "Chen", Ayi and Alan got married on the day of the harvest and had children. From then on, a hardworking, brave and wise nation was born. Later, every year on the eighth day of the eighth lunar month, the Miao family would cook a new steamer of glutinous rice and prepare a table of good wine and food. In order to express respect for the hunting dog Aga who brought rice seeds to the Miao family, they would first scoop a bowl for the dog to eat, and then the whole family would eat together. After the noodles, they would sing and dance, play with lanterns and dragons, celebrate the harvest, and sing praises of a beautiful and happy life. This custom has been passed down from generation to generation and continues to this day. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
