Songmingyan is located in Xiaoxia Scenic Area, Diaotan Township, 23 kilometers south of Hezheng County, Linxia Prefecture. The scenic area consists of four peaks: Xifangding, Nanwutai, Yuhuangfeng, and Jiguanshan. It is one of the three famous flower fairs in Gansu Province and the birthplace of Hezhou Huaer. Songmingyan Huaer Fair is held from April 26th to 29th of the lunar calendar every year at Songmingyan, a national forest park and provincial scenic spot in Hezheng County, Gansu Province. According to the "Hezheng County Chronicles", Songmingyan holds a Longhua Conference on April 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th every year, with thousands of pilgrims and a lot of incense. According to historical research, Huaer appeared in Hezheng County in the early Ming Dynasty, and it has a history of at least hundreds of years. Songmingyan Huaer Fair has a continuous historical inheritance and broad openness and tolerance, with fixed singing time and occasions. At the Songmingyan Flower Festival, singers sing not only various Hezhou orders but also "Mudan Order". The performances may be held on the hillside, on the lawn, at the mountain pass, or in the forest. The singing forms include solo, chorus, and duet. The accompanying instruments include 0, four-stringed instrument, zhina, and erhu.
