🎧  Listen to Introduction

In the Neolithic Age, Huanzhou (the ancient name of Huan County) had the "way of husband and wife". Since the Zhou ancestors moved to Fengcheng Qingyang, the Huanjiang River Basin has had the etiquette of marriage. In the pre-Qin and Han dynasties, weddings were gradually completed. In the Tang and Song dynasties (618-1279 AD), wedding customs were basically formed and have continued to this day. Main forms: 1. Matchmaking. When rural men and women grow up, matchmakers will mediate between them. After everything is done, they will choose a date to see the face. 2. Face reading. The man and woman agree on a date, invite a matchmaker, and then the two parties meet. 3. Locking. After everything is discussed, the man and woman hold a marriage lock ceremony under the auspices of the matchmaker, and agree on the gift and marriage matters, which is called "engagement". 4. Marriage and entering the bridal chamber. After the man and woman choose a date, they send a "small day" to the woman's family. Then, according to the date, the man marries the bride, and the woman's family sends the bride and dowry. 5. Make the bed and make a fuss in the room. On the first night of the wedding, the newlyweds will hold a bed-making ceremony (turning the bed and sheets over) hosted by the groom and the bridegroom, which means that the newlyweds have turned over a new leaf (grown up). Afterwards, they will have a big commotion in the bridal chamber hosted by relatives and friends to liven up the atmosphere. 6. Stand facing the moon or return home. The bride will stay in her parents' home for as many days as she did in her husband's home. Some couples return home directly. Other related objects: special wire chain locks for padlocks, wedding sedan chairs (now vehicles), veils, red roosters, engagement shoes, horse-mounted shoes, lanterns, dowries, walnuts, dates, engagement items, new bedding, etc. Information source: External Propaganda Office of the CPC Huan County Committee Information source: External Propaganda Office of the CPC Huan County Committee
