"Sigangli" is an ancient legend circulated among the Wa people. "Sigang" means cliff cave, and "li" means to come out. "Sigangli" means to come out of the cave. It specifically refers to the geographical location in Bagedai, near the Burmese Yancheng, opposite the Nanxi River in Yuesong Township, Cangyuan County. The historical legend of "Gangli" is that in ancient times, people were imprisoned in a closed cave in the mountain and could not get out. The omnipotent god Mo Wei appointed Xiao Laique to chisel open the cave, and mice led away the tiger guarding the cave entrance and biting people. Spiders blocked the big tree that prevented people from leaving the cave, so that humans could walk out of the cave. Living and working in peace and contentment in various places, resting and recuperating is the general meaning of Sigangli. If you want to talk about it in detail, it will be very long. In short, the legend of "Sigangli" is the source of human history. In the past, the Wa people would go to "Sigangli" in Bagedai every year to slaughter cattle for sacrifice and commemorate "Sigangli". The creation myth of the Wa people: In the ancient times of mankind, only one Wa woman survived after drifting to the peak of Sigangli. This woman was fertilized by the sun and the moon and gave birth to a boy and a girl. One day, my mother was sitting on a rock and weaving cloth with colorful clouds in the sky. Suddenly, a cow came to tell her that her son and daughter had fallen into the sea. At that time, the mountains of Sigangli were surrounded by the vast sea. My mother was very anxious and asked the cow to rescue them. The cow could float in the water, so it went down to the sea and carried the brother and sister on its neck and sent them to the shore. My mother was so grateful that she made a rule to worship the cow forever. In the early 1960s, when China and Myanmar re-determined the border, Sigangli was assigned to Myanmar. If outsiders wanted to go to Sigangli, the procedures were very troublesome, so they had to give up the idea. But no matter which country Sigangli belongs to, it is always the place where the ancestors of the Wa people were born. Therefore, many Wa people often cross the border to worship in Sigangli, and embroider the cliffs, caves, streams and waterfalls, trees, flowers, birds and beasts, blue sky and white clouds there on their clothes. Wa people always remember: I am the descendant of the Awa people who came out of the sacred Sigangli, and the spiritual energy of Sigangli will always be with me. Although the Wa people in different regions have different interpretations of "Sigangli", they all regard Awa Mountain as the birthplace of mankind, and at the same time they all reflect that they are the earliest inhabitants of the Awa Mountain area. "Sigangli" is the Wa people's memory of their own ancient cave life. Every May, Cangyuan County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, holds the "Cangyuan Wa Sigangli Carnival" with lively and grand scenes, Wa special snacks and bullfighting competitions. Cangyuan is one of the few areas in my country that went directly from primitive society to socialist society. Due to historical reasons, some Wa people believe in Christianity and have built a certain number of churches. Coupled with the charm of "Sigangli" culture, Cangyuan County has become a rising star in Yunnan tourism. On June 7, 2008, Sigangli was approved by the State Council to be included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
