Wenling ship model making refers to the wooden boat making skills mainly distributed in Shitang Town, such as Chen Xiangrong's Chen's Wooden Boat Workshop. Chen's ship models include both ancient ship models and modern and contemporary ship models, and also have the largest ship model in Taizhou. In Shitang Town, there are also individual workshops engaged in ship model making, such as Jiang Jueqing, Chen Xianglai, and Zhang Yongbin. Wenling's ship model making is based on the original wooden boat manufacturing industry and has a long history. The ancestors of Shitang basically came from southern Fujian. They not only brought the production and living customs of southern Fujian, but also brought the most advanced shipbuilding technology at the time, which has been passed down to this day. Since the 1970s and 1980s, when steel fishing reels gradually replaced wooden fishing boats, a large number of shipbuilding craftsmen began to change their careers. Some of them were unwilling to give up their craftsmanship and began to make small ship models. As a result, a new ship model industry quietly emerged. Chen Xiangrong's Chen's Wooden Boat Workshop is one of them. Chen's ship model production is a simulated solid wood production. In addition to the basic characteristics of rigorous structure, reasonable layout, simple yet delicate, and small but majestic, it also has the following characteristics: restoring historical authenticity, rich variety and content, and comprehensive production skills.
