Xinping Dai life customs are spread in Dai villages in Shuitang, Gasa, Yaojie, Mosha and other towns in Xinping Yi and Dai Autonomous County, Yuxi City. Xinping Dai life customs are complete in form and strict in system, including 13 categories such as child-seeking customs, pregnancy customs, birth customs, naming customs, full-month customs, one-year-old customs, youth customs, adult customs, tattoo customs, tooth-dyeing customs, Huajie beauty contest customs, wedding customs and funeral customs, which are the behavioral norms and value standards of the Dai people throughout their lives. Xinping Dai (Huayao Dai) believe that having a child is a gift from the gods. If a woman does not get pregnant after two or three years of marriage, she must kill a chicken to sacrifice to the village god for a child, offer eggs to a big tree for a child, and go to the river to kill a duck to the water god "Pinan" for a child. A woman's pregnancy is a great joy, and she will be carefully cared for by the whole family, and pay attention to prenatal education. When a newborn is born, a "mother hen" is killed and a rice ceremony is held to celebrate. A baby is given a nickname three or four days after birth, and there are different ways to ask for a name. When the child reaches school age, he or she also needs a school name. When the baby is one month old, there is a full-month ceremony. The men in the family have to go to the river or the field to catch fish and shrimp to "start eating meat", indicating that the child will be able to hunt in the mountains and fish in the river when he or she grows up. When the baby is one year old, there is a one-year-old ceremony. A chicken is killed on an auspicious day to offer sacrifice to the ancestors, the baby is asked to grasp the week, and an embroidery expert from the village is invited to the family to tell fortunes. When the baby is seven or eight years old, a youth ceremony is held, and the baby is dressed in youth clothes, marking the beginning of adolescence. When the baby is seventeen or eighteen years old, an adult ceremony is held. Braiding the hair is one of the most important customs of the Huayao Dai girls. An auspicious day must be chosen to braid the hair, and after three days, bright and luxurious adult clothes are worn. After that, they can participate in the beauty contest in the flower street. The Flower Street Festival, also known as "Flower Street", is a grand national festival of the Huayao Dai people in Xinping. It is also a grand event for Huayao Dai girls to compete for beauty, young men to participate in beauty contests, and young men and women to express their love to each other. In addition, tattooing and tooth dyeing are one of the traditional customs of the Dai people. Tattoos are more common in Xinping, and most of them are tattooed on the arms and wrists. Wedding and funeral customs also have a complete set of procedures and are unique. Xinping Dai life customs are generally popular among the three branches of Dai Ya, Dai Sa and Dai Ka. They have a long history and distinct regional characteristics. They inherit national culture, national spirit and traditional virtues, highly condense and cover the essence and humanistic value of Huayao Dai culture, and have historical and cultural value for studying the development history of the Xinping Dai people. With the development of society, the number of people who participate in Huayao Dai life customs is decreasing, especially the cultural inheritors who systematically master life customs are lacking, and the Dai young people's sense of value recognition of life customs is gradually fading.
