The Lantern Festival (Heshang Longdeng Shenghui), a local traditional folk custom in Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is one of the national intangible cultural heritages. The ritual procedures of the Heshang Longdeng Shenghui mainly include the opening ceremony, lighting, Lantern Festival, and burning lanterns. The twelfth day of the first lunar month is the "Lantern Day", that is, the day when the dragon lantern is raised. The fifteenth day of the first lunar month is the climax of the Lantern Festival. The dragon lantern activity ends on the seventeenth day of the first lunar month, which is called the "Lantern Day". On this day, the dragon body must be cremated, and the dragon head Bodhisattva goes to heaven to bless the people of Heshang with good weather and peace. Legend about the board dragon: The Heshang Longdeng Shenghui is related to Li Shimin's "Jinghe Old Dragon" prayer for rain. The Heshang Longdeng Shenghui originated in the Southern Song Dynasty. Legend has it that Tang Taizong Li Shimin prayed for rain to a "Jinghe Old Dragon". The old dragon had compassion for the world and rained, but violated the rules of heaven. The old dragon did good things but was not rewarded, and was cut into several pieces by the heaven. The people were grateful and remembered the old dragon. Every household used benches to make lanterns and offered sacrifices to the bench dragon. This custom continued until the Southern Song Dynasty. With the relocation of the capital, the dragon dance of the bench was carried out on the river. Legend 2 about the dragon: The dragon dance custom in Heshang Town is related to the commemoration of Guangfu Temple. Guangfu Temple is a temple in Lixie Village (now Lidu Village) in Heshang Town. In order to help the local people, the monks of Guangfu Temple transported tofu, fruits and vegetables to the Yongxing River to open a shop for trade and give alms to all living beings. In order to express gratitude, the local people have preserved Guangfu Temple to this day, and the history of dragon dance in Lidu Village has been passed down. On November 11, 2014, the Lantern Festival (Heshang Dragon Lantern Festival) was approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China to be included in the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage list, project number: X-71.
