The 24 solar terms of the lunar calendar (Jiuhua Spring Festival)
Jiuhua Lichun Festival is a traditional agricultural festival custom that has been well preserved in Waichen Village, Jiuhua Township, Kecheng District, Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The beginning of spring in the lunar calendar is the day of sacrifice, and Jiuhua Wutong Ancestral Temple is the main venue for the Lichun Festival. The main sacrificial activities include: worshiping the spring god Ju Mang, welcoming spring and receiving blessings to pray for a good harvest, offering sacrifices, dressing up as the God of Mang, burning incense to welcome the gods, making spring oxen, performing plays to thank the gods, outings, and whipping the spring ox. Whipping the spring ox is an important part of the entire Lichun Festival. Selected people dress up as the God of Mang and whip the spring ox. Local administrative officials perform the incense ceremony to indicate the beginning of spring ploughing. The ceremony expresses people's expectations for good weather, good harvests, and peace and prosperity. Jiuhua Wutong Ancestral Temple Lichun Festival is a precious relic of the traditional folk rituals of my country's long-standing agricultural civilization, and is of great significance for inheriting the fine traditions of the Chinese nation and promoting the national spirit.
