Wannian Taiping Jumping Dragon Lantern (the third batch of provincial-level) Taiping Jumping Dragon Lantern, also known as Short-legged Dragon Lantern, is popular in Suqiao Township, Wannian County. It is a folk performance art with dragon bodies as props and performed by many people. According to the "Wannian County Chronicles", this dragon lantern was popular in the market and the countryside as early as the Tang Dynasty. During the Spring Festival to the Lantern Festival every year, many villages organize dragon dance teams to perform in their own villages and neighboring villages. In addition to entertainment, performing Taiping Jumping Dragon Lantern is also a kind of worship and blessing activity for people to pray for the blessing of gods and pray for a good harvest. The dragon body of Taiping Jumping Dragon Lantern is made of bamboo strips and is cylindrical, connected by 7 or 11 sections. The diameter of the cylinder is about 20 cm, wrapped in red and yellow cloth, and the cloth surface is painted or cut and pasted into scales. A short wooden stick is tied to each section, and the performer dances with the stick. The lantern dancers have one head and one tail, 7 to 11 dragon bodies, and one treasure guide. They are guided by the ingot lanterns and dance according to the traditional tunes. There are lanterns in front of the dragon team, which lead the way, and drums and music accompaniment behind them. They can dance in temples or farmers' courtyards. During the Taiping Jumping Dragon Lantern performance, the dragon dancers jump with their feet to the rhythm of the tunes. The dragon dance consists of basic routines such as coiling, swimming, jumping, and playing, as well as transitional movements such as small swimming dragons, large swimming dragons, and dragon tail drilling. All movements are performed while the dragon is swimming, with vivid shapes and clever changes. The most characteristic is that during the entire dance, the performers walk in dwarf steps, like a dragon crawling forward, forming a self-created and unique dragon dance performance style. Taiping Jumping Dragon Lantern is closely linked to folk festivals and sacrificial activities, and contains a strong folk color, with unique historical, cultural and social values.
