The Legend of Laoye Temple (the third batch of provincial level) The Legend of Laoye Temple is widely circulated in the surrounding counties of the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake. The story took place in the 23rd year of Zhizheng (1363) at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. According to legend, Zhu Yuanzhang and Chen Youliang fought in the battle of Kanglang Mountain in Poyang Lake. Zhu Yuanzhang was defeated and fled northward. When he reached the waters of Laoye Temple, he was blocked. In the crisis, an old man on the lake drove a small boat across the river to save his life. When Zhu Yuanzhang turned around to reward silver, the old man disappeared and turned into a giant turtle (big-headed turtle) and rushed towards Chen Youliang's warship and defeated it. After Zhu Yuanzhang became emperor, he conferred the Laoye Temple as the "Dingjiang King Temple" and the big-headed turtle as the "General Xianyingyuan". The waters in front of the Laoye Temple are weird. It is the most dangerous water pass on Poyang Lake. There are often sudden storms and waves, which catch passing ships off guard, and lake disasters often occur. To this day, when ships pass through this stretch of water, the ship owners have to face the Laoye Temple, burn incense and paper, blow blasts and kneel down to pray to "General Turtle" for safety. The waters in front of the Laoye Temple are called "Devil Lake" and "Bermuda of China". In June 2010, the project was included in the third batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage representative list. According to the third chapter of Volume 32 of "Duchang County Chronicles", the Laoye Temple "is located at the head of Duobao Longtou Mountain, facing Xingzi County across the lake. It used to be the Dragon King Temple, and the temple was built a long time ago." There is no verification of the exact year it was built. There are two stone tablets embedded in the walls on both sides of the Laoye Temple: the right one is "Records of the Temple of General Zuo Li Yuan" and the left one is "Records of the Temple of General Xian Ying Yuan". The square granite column in front of the main hall is engraved with "Hundreds of years of temple appearance, rebuilt to praise the merits of our king, 90,000 miles of prestige and power to calm the storms in Lishui". The so-called "Zuo Li" refers to the left side of the ancient Poyang Lake, and "Lishui" is the ancient name of Poyang Lake. On the left rock of the temple, there is a stone inscription of "Water Surface and Heart of Heaven" inscribed by Zhu Yuanzhang with a sword. These inscriptions, pillar couplets and stone carvings all prove that the great emperor Zhu Yuanzhang did have a "heavenly will" relationship with the Laoye Temple and its waters. According to the record of Dingjian Zuoli Yuanjiangjun Temple written by Xiong Yongliang (from Fengcheng), a teacher in Duchang during the Qing Dynasty, "Zuoli is on the left of Pengli. The water is surging and rushes straight to Boshe. When the wind blows, the waves are irregular. Therefore, of all the lakes, Zuoli is the most dangerous." The article also records, "At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty fought with the pseudo-Han in Poyang Lake. He was defeated at first and fled to the lakeside. He met an old man driving a boat near the shore. Emperor Taizu rescued him and gave him gold plutonium. When he looked back, he found that it was a turtle. He stayed in the temple that night and wrote a poem on the wall." Xiong Yongliang recorded the story of the giant turtle saving his master.
