TeMaoKe Festival is the most solemn and grand festival of the Jino people, the indigenous people of Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. "TeMaoKe" (English name: TeMaoKe) is the Jino language, which means "New Year". "Te" means "hit" in Chinese, and "Maoke" means "big iron", so the "TeMaoKe" Festival is also called the "Iron Festival". In the Jino language, TeMaoKe means "grand iron festival", which is a festival held by the Jino people to commemorate the creation and use of ironware. In the early years, the TeMaoKe Festival was the Iron Festival, which was usually held in the twelfth month of the lunar calendar. Festival activities include: cattle-stealing ceremony, offering sacrifices to big drums (sacred drums), swings, spinning tops, throwing bags, stilt walking and other activities, or visiting relatives and friends to celebrate the festival. In 1988, the Standing Committee of the Xishuangbanna State People's Congress designated the TeMaoKe Festival as the annual festival of the Jino people, that is, the New Year's festival, which is held from February 6th to 8th every year according to the wishes of the Jino people. Although the Temok Festival is a national festival for the Jino people, in the past, festival activities were held in villages, and the time of celebration was decided by the elders of each village, "Zhuoba". However, the procedures and content of the festival are similar. On May 24, 2021, the Temok Festival applied by Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, was approved by the State Council to be included in the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects.
