Hand-end puppet show (second batch of provincial level) Hand-end puppet show is also commonly known as "Duan Xizi" and "Mosquito Net Play" in the folk. It is a folk performing art with a long history that is circulated in Xinfeng County, Jiangxi Province. It is performed by putting puppets on hands and hitting musical instruments with feet at the same time. It can imitate various singing styles according to different roles. Hand-end puppet show was once widely spread in southern Jiangxi, with different styles, but it is extremely rare now. Hand-end puppet show is the most frugal and versatile art performance form in traditional performing arts. Because of its simple equipment and capable personnel, it is called "Drama King" or "Xiao Wangban". Sheng, Dan, Jing, Mo, and Chou are all manipulated and sung by one person. The props used are also relatively simple. Only a play box, a play frame, several puppets, gongs, small drums, cymbals and other musical instruments are needed to perform anytime and anywhere. During the performance, the actor's feet, hands and mouth work together organically, and the singing imitates the tone of the role according to the age and gender of the role. Most of the plays performed are adapted from folk legends, stories, novels, etc., among which the plays adapted from classics such as "Journey to the West" account for a large proportion, and there are also many modern plays created by artists of different periods according to the needs of the situation at that time. There are basically no written scripts for the plays, which are mainly taught orally or written and performed by themselves. The puppet head of the hand-held puppet show is made of solid wood, the size of an egg, and the head is hollow, so that fingers can be inserted into the hollow to control the performance movements. The body is sewn with cloth to be like a hand.
