Yangzhou Kunqu Opera is a traditional drama project in the first batch of representative projects of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Kunqu Opera has been spread to Yangzhou in the Ming Dynasty. Around the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Yangzhou had professional Kunqu Opera performances. At the turn of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the smoke of the ten-day war in Yangzhou replaced the silk pipes of Zhuxi singing and blowing, and the Kunqu Opera disappeared. However, once the society was stable and the economy recovered, Yangzhou Kunqu Opera quickly flourished. The biggest feature of Yangzhou Kunqu Opera during the Qianlong period was the emergence of a large number of family Kunqu Operas maintained by salt merchants, which were later called the "Seven Inner Operas". The Seven Inner Operas of Yangzhou have a unique position in the history of opera. They are a gathering of famous actors, with a full range of roles, a wide range of repertoires, and gorgeous costumes. For a long period of time in the late Qing Dynasty, the sound of Kunqu Opera came not from gardens, but from brothels. In addition, there were a few scholars and officials who adhered to Kunqu Opera. In modern times, Yangzhou's Kunqu opera has included Guangling Qu Society, Yangzhou Amateur Kunqu Opera Research Group, Guangling Kunqu Opera Society, Yangzhou Konggu Youlan Qu Society, Yangzhou Youth Kunqu Opera Class, etc. These operas have been faithfully upholding Kunqu Opera and have continued to this day, adding a touch of refinement to the ancient city.
