The wooden building construction skills of the Dong ethnic group are the most outstanding traditional ethnic folk culture in Sanjiang County, Guangxi. During the Three Kingdoms period, the ancestors of the Dong ethnic group "built wood on trees to live on, which was called stilt houses", and gradually formed the wooden building construction skills. The wooden buildings of the Sanjiang Dong ethnic group are represented by the Wind and Rain Bridge and the Drum Tower, which are not only beautiful in shape, but also unique in craftsmanship. The entire building is connected by mortise and tenon joints, with a solid structure and meticulous joints, and has extremely high craftsmanship and artistic value. The Drum Tower is also known as the "Arhat Tower". It uses a giant tree as the central column to build a tower-shaped "monopod tower". It stands in the Dong village, standing on the ground and reaching the sky, becoming a spiritual symbol of the Dong people. The Wind and Rain Bridge lies across the river. In the Dong people's concept, it is a "bridge of life" that connects the yin and yang worlds and a "bridge of fortune" that protects the village and brings in wealth. Therefore, it is not stingy to carve and decorate it, making it a magnificent and brilliant combination of pavilions, towers, corridors and bridges. The various patterns and carved beams and painted buildings on the buildings and bridges embody the Dong people's beautiful wishes and aesthetic pursuits for good weather and good harvests, and are a concentrated reflection of the characteristics of the Dong culture. The Dong people are born artists, and the architectural skills of folk craftsmen are very superb. When they build buildings, bridges and houses, they don't need a single drawing. They know the entire structure by heart. They only use simple bamboo sticks as rulers and unique "ink master's writing" as design marks. They can use ordinary carpenter tools and wood to make buildings and bridges of various styles and beautiful shapes. The exquisite design and beautiful shape are breathtaking. What is worrying is that at present, due to the lack of successors of Dong construction craftsmen and the lack of wood sources, coupled with the extremely weak fire resistance of wooden buildings, which are easily damaged and difficult to regenerate, the Dong wooden buildings and related skills are in danger of continuation. Only by strengthening rescue and protection work can the wonderful Dong wooden building skills be passed down from generation to generation.
