Guan Gong belief is a social practice, ritual and festival activity with the core content of worshipping the "loyalty, benevolence, righteousness and courage" spirit of Guan Yu (160220), the Chinese Martial Saint. Guan Yu was revered as the "Martial Saint" for his bravery and good fighting skills, and was as famous as Confucius, the "Literary Saint", and had a profound impact on Chinese traditional culture. In the long process of historical development, he was gradually deified as an almighty god who combined the god of war, the god of exorcism, the god of protection, and the god of martial wealth. His believers include people from all walks of life and most industries. Guan Gong belief in Yuncheng area has temple sacrifices, family sacrifices, temporary sacrifices, industry and guild hall sacrifices and other forms of expression. For example, three large-scale Guan Gong temple sacrifices are held on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, the birthday of Guan Yu, the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, and the Double Ninth Festival on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. In the Guan Gong sacrifice on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, after a series of worship ceremonies are held in the Guandi Temple in Jiezhou, the Guan Gong statue is carried out of the temple and paraded throughout Jiezhou Town to bless the people with good weather and good harvests. On the twenty-fourth day of the sixth lunar month, the community worshipped three generations of Guan Gong ancestors at the Changping Village Family Temple and invited a troupe to perform Guan Gong opera. On the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, the Guan Temple held the largest and most participated sacrificial activities. Following the traditional rituals of beating drums, welcoming gods, first offerings, laying down jade and silk, burning incense, offering sacrifices, second offerings, reading blessings, final offerings, drinking blessing wine, sending gods off, watching the fire, performing arts, ending the ceremony, and offering alms, the nearly three-hour sacrificial activities were accompanied by a variety of folk art forms such as Guan Gong gongs and drums and Guan Gong opera performances. Guan Gong belief is one of the most representative forms of Chinese folk belief culture and plays an important role in the continuation of Chinese cultural traditions.
