Colored printed cloth, also known as "flower bundle" or "bundle skin". Color printing originated in the Qin and Han Dynasties and flourished in the Tang and Song Dynasties. It is known for its strange artistic form, unique appearance, and simple and rich style. In the past, colored printed cloth was an indispensable part of people's lives. The clothes worn by the older generation, the daily door curtains, the dowry of the daughters, and the bundles used for engagement, marriage, and visiting relatives and friends are all made of colored printing and flowered cloth. It is most widely used in rural areas. Colored printed cloth is mainly printed in red, emerald green, pink, purple, yellow and other colors. The patterns are magnificent. People usually use "goose yellow, duck green, chicken comb purple, egret white, crow green, crane top red" to describe the colorful color printed cloth. The themes of colored printed cloth are mostly peony, phoenix, lotus, wealth, happiness and longevity. Most of them are selected from auspicious folk stories and legends and historical stories and legends, such as "fish wearing lotus", "four happy pomegranates", "phoenix wearing peony", "auspicious and abundant", "rich and longevity picture", "five poisonous bellybands", etc., with unique themes and full composition. With bright colors, strong contrast, simple and bold, and a strong rural flavor, it is a must-have for rural girls when they get married. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, dyeing workshops of all sizes gradually prospered. In the Republic of China period, all counties and towns opened dyeing workshops of all sizes. After liberation, the varieties of color printed cloth became more and more widely used. However, during the Cultural Revolution, dyeing workshops and printed cloth became the "tail of capitalism" and the target of "breaking the four olds", which led to the closure of dyeing workshops across the country, and the color printing that had always been a livelihood gradually disappeared. Fortunately, Zhang Mingjian from Linyi was young when he was an apprentice, learned quickly, and learned a lot and finely. When his house was searched during the Cultural Revolution, he hid some of the painting plates and tools in the chicken coop, thus preventing the color printing skills from being lost. Zhang Mingjian, born in Linyi in 1948, is an outstanding cultural inheritor of Chinese folk culture. According to the investigation of the Ministry of Culture, he is currently the only artist in China who can color printed cloth. He has independently completed the plate making, plate making, stereotype, color matching, printing and dyeing. Due to the development of the times and the changes of time, color printed cloth is basically not used now, and the old artists who can print color have passed away one after another, and the art of color printing is on the verge of extinction. As an intangible cultural heritage, color printed cloth has become a key protection project in our country.
