🎧  Listen to Introduction

The legend of Qin Shihuang's eastern tour was born in Chengshantou area of Rongcheng City. Chengshantou, with an altitude of 200 meters, is 1.5 miles long from east to west and 5 miles wide from north to south. It is the first place in China to see the sunrise over the sea. It is known as "the place where the sun rises in Asia" and "the Cape of Good Hope in China". It is currently a national AAAA-level scenic spot. Since 1997, when Xixiakou Village, located at the foot of Chengshan Cape, obtained the right to operate and develop, it has made positive contributions to the construction of scenic spots, the protection of cultural attractions and the protection of intangible cultural heritage. Chengshantou has a long history. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period, it was a highlight of the coastal scenery of Shandong Peninsula. King Jing of Qi said: "I want to watch the transfer, Chaoyang, follow the sea to the south, and go to Langya." The Chaoyang in the text refers to Chengshantou. In the ancient period of god worship, Chengshantou was also known as the residence of the sun god. According to the "Historical Records", after Qin Shihuang unified China, he climbed Chengshan twice and left many historical sites and ruins on Chengshan, such as the left post road during the emperor's eastern tour, the Qin Dynasty standing stone, the shark-shooting platform, the altar site, the Wanghaitai site, etc., and cultural relics such as jade huang, jade gui, jade bi, inscribed tiles, stepping bricks, etc. have been unearthed one after another. Therefore, many wonderful stories and myths about Qin Shihuang have been circulated among the people. For example: Qin Shihuang and Lijia Mountain, Qianjun Stone, Yinma Pool, Chengshan Thorn inverted hook turned straight, Chengshan dwarf pine, Li Si Monument, Zhaoshi Mountain, Qinqiao Ruins, Qin Shihuang's demotion of dung beetles, Madam Mountain, Chengshan Temple seating arrangement, and Shihuang's shame to see scholars. These beautiful legends have become an important part of Rongcheng's intangible cultural heritage. These folk oral living legends have very important historical and cultural value. They help people to understand the past history and culture more realistically, comprehensively, and closer to the original place, especially for the inheritance and research of ancient culture and Qin culture. These legends also reflect the local culture, regional customs, and humanistic features of the Jiaodong area. They have had a significant impact on the Jiaodong coast, greatly enriched people's spiritual life, and expressed the local people's love for a better life and their clear-cut ideological qualities. At the same time, as an artistic creation of the people, these folk legends also have very important value in folk cultural exchanges and research. However, with the changes of the times, this ancient legend has been impacted and neglected in terms of dissemination channels and inheritance awareness, and urgently needs to be fully protected and inherited. At present, we have identified some inheritors of the legend of Qin Shihuang's Eastern Tour within Rongcheng City, confirmed the status of the relevant inheritors, and done a good job in protecting the inheritors; we have sorted out and published books such as "Rongcheng Legends" and "Chengshantou Grand View", which provide effective help for future research and development of Chengshantou culture; the specific scenes and sites of the legends have been confirmed and effectively protected.
