The Legend of Jiujinggou
"Legend of Jiujinggou" is a mythical legend about Jiujinggou, one of the "Ten Scenic Spots" of Susong. Jiujinggou is a mysterious place with nine legends. These legends revolve around the lively and beautiful water of Jiujinggou. There are legends about the origin of Jiujinggou and various scenic spots, as well as legends about historical figures and events. The place where the legend took place, "Xiyuan Jiujing", is located in Aikou Township in the northwest of Susong County, Anhui Province. Aikou Township is a mountainous township. Due to the long-term impact of the flying waterfall, nine deep pools of water were naturally excavated, namely "Jiujing", and the impacted belt-shaped river valley is called "Jiujinggou". The mysterious and legendary Jiujinggou, with its beautiful scenery and beautiful legends, has attracted countless tourists from ancient times to the present. The history of the legend of Jiujinggou is long, but the specific time of its origin cannot be verified. There are many moving legends circulating in each well of Jiujinggou. Among them, the most widely circulated and influential is the legend of the three brothers of the Zhou family of Sanjing who sacrificed themselves to save others. Legend has it that during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, the Xiyuan area suffered from drought for a long time and was almost deserted. The three Zhou brothers went down to the bottom of the dry well to explore the Dragon Palace in order to pray for rain. Rain came, but the three Zhou brothers were gone forever. Wang Anshi, a politician and writer in the Northern Song Dynasty, once visited Sanjing to pay tribute to the three brothers and left behind precious poems. In order to commemorate the three brothers, later generations built the Three Dragon King Temple near Sanjing, and Wang Anshi's mourning poems were carved on the walls of the temple. In the Yiyou year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (1489), the county magistrate Chen Ke rebuilt the Three Dragon King Temple. The county magistrate Shi Pu also paid tribute here. However, after the chaos of war and the baptism of time, it is impossible to find traces of the past, and only some records can be found in historical materials. The legend of Jiujinggou has a strong mythological color. It was created orally by the ancestors in their long-term production and life, expressing people's awe of nature and their yearning for a beautiful and happy life. It preserves the spiritual history of the local people in a unique way. The legend of Jiujinggou provides a vivid teaching material for us to study the folk culture of this region and even the Han nationality, which is worthy of our rescue, excavation, protection and inheritance.
