Wangxu Lantern Festival is a traditional folk cultural activity with great influence in Shuanggang Town, Tongcheng City. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, the ancestors of the Wang family, who originally lived in Wasiba, Wanzai County, Jiangxi Province, moved to Wangxu Group, Qingcheng Village, Shuanggang Town, Tongcheng, bringing with them the ancestral dragon frame and dragon lantern art. It has been passed down from generation to generation, and has developed from the original single-surname dance to the current nine villager groups, more than ten surnames, and nearly 1,000 families from 230 households participating. The Wangxu Festival is held in the first month of the leap year, and each session has a hall master. When the lanterns are out, the formation is huge. There are rows of lanterns in front to lead the way, Wuchang and the Eight Immortals are in heavy makeup, the flower basket team and the lantern team sing and dance, the dragon lantern is in the middle and meanders in, and there are gongs and drums teams, clamshell lanterns, lantern teams, etc. behind, more than a hundred candle lanterns are lit, dozens of gongs and drums are noisy, and the crowds of people watching the lanterns range from thousands to tens of thousands. The team is as long as 1 kilometer, and the scene is grand and lively. The main lantern of the Wangxu Lantern Festival is the dragon lantern, which belongs to the rope lantern, with a total of thirteen sections. Only the dragon head and the dragon tail dance against each other, while the dragon body does not move. There are special people behind the dancing dragon head and dragon tail to retract and release the ropes, hence the name. The Wangxu Lantern Festival starts on the 15th day of the twelfth lunar month, is consecrated on the first day of the first lunar month, and the lanterns are lit on the second day. The lanterns must be lowered before the Lantern Festival. The Wangxu Lantern Festival has strict organizational management, safety management, and financial management, and all its income is used for public welfare projects such as bridge and road construction, poverty alleviation, and disaster relief. The Wangxu Lantern Festival combines the making of colored lanterns with the art of dragon lanterns. It carries the good wishes and life pursuits of the general public for good weather, happy families, and world peace. It has a strong folk character, broad mass character, and strong cohesion.
