Bowang Blacksmithing
Bowang Town in Dangtu County was first built during the Liang Dynasty in the Southern Dynasties. As early as the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Bowang had formed a production model of farming during the busy farming season and going out to forge iron during the slack season. There is a ballad saying that "Bowang blacksmiths carry their loads and travel around. They make knives and scissors with green edges". During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Bowang Iron Industry was even more famous, and there was a saying that "Wuhu's scissors and Bowang's knives". In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, Bowang established an overseas hometown association for the iron industry. Bowang's ironmaking craftsmanship has a long history and is endless. Traditionally, Bowang's iron products have been limited to civilian blades such as kitchen knives, scissors, and farm tools. Today, with the passage of time, the development of science and technology, people's lifestyles and daily necessities are changing with each passing day. In the hands of generations of blacksmiths, in the melting pot of emotional fire, the iron industry has gradually taken off the "rust" of the ages and glowed with infinite vitality. The ancient profession of traditional blacksmiths has gradually disappeared, and ordinary ironware has been gradually eliminated by the torrent of history. Rather than saying that iron products are updated, it is better to say that iron art technology is widely used and advanced. It is precisely because of the development of science and the advancement of technology that Bowang Iron Industry has undergone upgrades again and again, striding forward from household civil use to industrial machinery manufacturing, and from workshop-style handicrafts to modern manufacturing. The fusion of such extraordinary iron products and traditional craftsmanship has given birth to new iron art and iron art culture with Bowang's unique characteristics. Nowadays, Bowang is praised by the outside world as "China's Hometown of Cutting Tools", "China's No. 1 Shearing and Disassembly Machine Tool Town", and "Bowang Manufacturing" is well-known throughout the country. The town has more than 400 large and small iron industrial enterprises.
